Chandpur (চাঁদপুর জেলা) is a district of Bangladesh. It is a part of the Chittagong Division.[1] It was part of greater Comilla District until 1984.[2]
Administration
In December 2011, the Bangladeshi Government appointed Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd.) Abu Osman Chowdhury, a member of the Bangladesh Awami League,
as the administrator to the Chandpur District Council. Md. Ismiel
Hossain, the Deputy Commissioner of the Bangladeshi Government's Cabinet Division, is responsible for Chittagong Division's Chandpur district.
The Deputy Commissioner of Chandpur district is Prantosh Roy.[citation needed]
The Chandpur district consists of 8 municipalities, 660 wards, 200 mahallahs (sub-divisions), 8 upazilas (administrative sub-districts), 8 thanas (administrative police districts), 88 Union Councils of Bangladesh (rural administrative districts) and 1226 villages.[citation needed] The district has five parliamentary seats.
The 8 municipalities of Chandpur district are Chandpur City,
Shahrasti, Matlab, Changerchar, Haziganj, Kachua and Narayanpur. The
Chandpur district's 8 upazilas are Chandpur Sadar, Faridganj, Haimchar, Haziganj, Kachua, Matlab Uttar Upazila, Matlab Dakkhin and Shahrasti.
It has also 2 Bangladesh Coast Guard stations, Chandpur Port and Haimchor and a railway police station, Chandpur Rail Port.
Demographics
The population of the district is 2,416,018.[3]
