Pirojpur (Bengali: পিরোজপুর) is a district (zila) in south-western Bangladesh. It is part of Barisal Division.[1]
It is located besides the Boleswor river at 22 30’ 00" N 89 52’ 00" E
& 22 52’-00" N 90 13’00" E and bounded by Gopalgonj, Barisal
district on the north, Barguna district on the south., Jhalokati
district on the east and Bagerhat on the west. It is declared as a
district in 1 March 1984. It consists of Seven Upazila, three Pourasava
and fifty one Unions. This district has may beautiful places and is
famous for its natural furits like coconut, Guava, Hog-plum, betel leaf
and betel nuts etc. The area of the town is small but everything is
built in a planned way and also very clean. There are different buses to
smooth the communication with other district as well as inside the
district. Water routes also connect this district with the capital city,
Khulna, Barisal etc all through the year. There are some prominent
rivers exists in the districts these are Boleshhwar, Kocha and Sandha
etc.
Most of the land is low laying plane land 10-19 feet above from see
level and the soil is fertile. It is a tidal and cyclone affected area
as a result habitants of this districts faces this challenge every year.
The minimum temperature is 8 to 9 c cued maxim temp. 38 c at summer,
Annual average rain fall 2240mm. The peoples are very friendly and
helpful. Pirojpur is one of the potential district in Bangladesh in all
respect.

Name
According to myth, the second son of Shah Shuja,
Firoz Shah, died in this area, and the area became known subsequently
as 'Firozpur'. In time, the pronunciation 'Firozpur' slowly muted to
'Pirozpur'.[2]
Geography
Pirojpur is also the name of a city of about 100,000 people. Most of
the land is low lying and the soil is fertile. There are small forests.
Nesarabad is known for its business centre and also for the Sundori tree (a kind of mangrove) that grows there.
Launches, steamers and boats are used for travelling on the rivers. The local port is called Hoolarhaat Launch Station (ghaat). Buses, autorickshaws and rickshaws are also used for transport.

The subdivision (then, a mohokooma, now a zila) of Pirojpur was created in 1866. The Pirojpur municipality was established in 1985.
